We believe we are living in the last of the last days. We believe unwaveringly, that according to the fulfilling of bible prophecy, this is the generation that will see the coming of our Messiah, Jesus. This puts an urgency in our hearts to see people come to know the Lord more than ever before. Even if we are wrong that it will be in our lifetime, without doubt we all will still face Jesus at the end of our life here on earth. None of us are promised tomorrow. Are we, as the church, currently doing everything we can to evangelize and disciple people while there is time left?It is easy to see the moral decay of our world. Hatred, violence, abuse and neglect of every kind imaginable abounds. Every kind of sexual promiscuity and perversion has become common place and for the most part acceptable. Only 30 years ago we left our keys in our cars and our doors unlocked. Today we are afraid to let our children play outside for fear of them being kidnaped, raped or murdered. We are afraid to put them into daycare centers or even church nurseries because we hear horror stories of abuse and molestation. We begin to ask ourselves where will the wickedness end. How will things be when our children are grown and have children of their own or when our grandchildren have children. Jesus is the only answer to moral decay and the many problems it has brought upon our society.
Matthew 9:35-38 says: Jesus was going through all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness. He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd, then He said to His disciples "the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest".
Jesus is looking at our cities today and saying the same thing. Our cities are filled with people who are distressed and dispirited. Many are lost and for whatever reason will never attend a church as they are today. Others of them have accepted Jesus as their Savior but they have not been discipled and remain spiritual babies. They have been left uncared for. Many that are born again are unchurched for various reason. Maybe they have been hurt in church or perhaps they were not being fed and lost interest or maybe they just never could really feel apart. Many have fallen through the cracks and it is time for the church to shepherd these sheep. God is raising up thousands of lay shepherds to do this work. In John chapter 21, Jesus asked Peter if he loved Him. When Peter responded yes, the Lord told him to go feed his sheep.
There are millions of children and teens here in America that have never accepted Jesus as their Lord. They have not been taught anything at all in many cases about God or His word. The schools are not teaching them anything for sure and many parents do not teach their children about God either. If they are unchurched, they simply are growing up without the hope that is found in Christ. How scary this must be in the ever increasingly turbulent society we live in. House churches providing evangelism and discipleship in every neighborhood, meets the needs of these youth. Children and teens can walk or be picked up easily for services. In John chapter 21 Jesus also told Peter to go feed His lambs.
Today Jesus is also telling His disciples that if we love Him, go feed his sheep and his lambs. Unfortunately the church today is failing miserably in this task. If the church doesn't find a way to step up to the plate what will happen to society in the future? Today, like never before the Lord of the harvest is raising up an army of harvesters. The house church movement is like a great harvesting machine. The result is rapid and thorough evangelization. He is using thousands of lay pastors to shepherd His sheep and to make true disciples of Jesus. House churches are not new but rather revived. The churches of the new testament are house churches. God is restoring the beginning church in all of its power.
There are further reasons for the house church. As our world gets darker and darker the need for neighborhood pastors grow. As people become more afraid as wars and terrorism increases those who don't have churches and pastors need someone to turn to. God is putting these safety nets and harvesting nets in place in order to meet this need. As times darken, people look for God, they look for spiritual guidance. House churches are small and intimate, perfect for this work.
God is also making preparation for an outpouring of His Spirit. (Joel chapter 2 and Acts chapter 2) It is true that darkness is covering the earth as we near the time of the return of Jesus as the bible describes. But at the same time, the Spirit of the Lord is also being poured out. God has always sent waves of revival to refresh and restore the body of Christ. The Azusa Street revival in the early 1900's brought restoration and change to the body of Christ through a renewal of the baptism of the Holy Spirit that has continued to grow stronger and stronger over time. The revivals around the 1950's brought waves of restoration of our faith for Gods healing power. God came with another wave of His glory around 1970 called the charismatic and faith movement. These farther moved the church back to it's roots. Around the 1990's another wave of Gods glory came with the Toronto outpouring and the Brownsville Revival. With this move, holiness and worship was restored. God has also restored the five fold ministry and brought back the understanding of the office of the prophet and the apostle to the church. God is continually restoring, reforming and refreshing His church. His work continues on.
God told me several years ago during one of my times of prayer that the next revival would be in the streets rather than the church. He showed me His power being poured out awesomely in a way that I have not seen yet. Healing, miracles and salvation will be a big part of it. House churches will be a major part of the thrust of this end time revival, as well as a means for caring for the harvest that it produces. The fire will spread like wildfire through house churches like in the beginning church. God will use unknowns, like you and me, just common Christians that love Him and are willing to be clean and used for His purposes. What a glorious day we live in! Are you ready? Now is the time for preparation. We must lay a net to catch a great harvest!
God is also going to use children and youth tremendously in this end time outpouring of His spirit but He needs spiritual mothers and fathers for these youth. They must be discipled, mentored, trained, sent and guided in their work for the Lord. Many of them will be brand new Christians set on fire by God and used by God but they must have mature mentors to help them. Sadly, during the youth revival of the late 60's and early 70's, "The Jesus Revolution", the church as a whole did not embrace these youth set on fire by God. They were misunderstood and rejected. Their fire was smoldered. Not this time! God is preparing the hearts of many to receive, disciple, love, guide and equip these youth to do the works of Jesus. They might not look the way we would like them to, but they will be filled with the power and the Spirit of God. Their time is already here!.
In Matthew chapter 24 Jesus talks about a time of severe persecution coming to Gods people. I believe we can already see the stage being set for this persecution even right here in America but even much greater in other parts of the world. We see judges misinterpreting the laws to try to shut the mouths of Christians from standing for the truth. We see it becoming very socially unacceptable to speak out against sin. It is becoming to be considered hate speech to speak to say that certain abominable things are sin. We see Christianity coming under fire more and more often in America today. Even those that don't belong to God notice it and are talking about it. Yet we can know that God will always watch over us and protect us if we put our trust in Him.
I believe the house church is Gods way of preparing beforehand a way of strengthening and even hiding us away from the coming persecution. My son, recently while praying heard the Lord refer to our house church network as the "underground church". This surprised him and me as well because we haven't thought of our church as an underground church. To us God was speaking of what it will be in the future. However, it is strange to me how the house church movement has been hidden from view right here in America for more than 10 years! God talked to me about this movement 9 years ago but I had no idea it was already well underway until God sovereignly called us to do begin a network ourselves in 2003. Then in my research, I began to see the work God had already done. Now it is gaining great momentum.
When God Spoke to me about this years ago, He told me that a time was coming when every sick person in the body of Christ would be healed, He also said not one need would go unmet. He said that those who have revelation to believe would carry those that did not until they also had faith to receive. He pointed me to the children of Israel being ushered from Egypt with their bodies healed and their needs abundantly met. He showed me the book of Acts church and said that is where the present day church is going. Persecution is what may push the church as we know it underground but God is already building the structure through house churches. Gods love for His children is so great.
Another reason God is reestablishing the house church is to have His children discipled and mentored. Too many people in the church are spiritual babies even though they have been in the church for years. In many cases not enough has been done to make true disciples. Most people in the church rely totally on the sermon or two they hear a week to nourish them. If we only fed our bodies a time or two a week, what would happen? We would become malnourished. Our churches are full of malnourished Christians spiritually speaking. Many don't know how to feed themselves, they don't have a relationship with God, they don't have a daily time of prayer, worship or growing in Gods word. Most don't know how to lead someone else to Christ. They are not even secure enough in witnessing to lead their own children to Christ! This just shouldn't be. But they must be taught these simple things. It will make them mature Christians, equipped to help others mature.
Another problem the body of Christ experiences is a lack of holy living. How can the church expect be a light that shines for the world or even have any victory in their own lives when their own life is as sin riddled as that of the worlds? Are churches teaching holiness and are they providing loving mentorship and accountability? In most cases, no.
Babies must be taught what parents expect of them and what is acceptable and what is not. Christians are no different, they must be taught what is acceptable to God and what is not. Gods kingdom is different from this world, so special training is in order. Christians must also be taught how to dig into Gods word for themselves to see what God expects of them. They must be taught how to develop their relationship with God and hear His voice and to be obedient to that voice. They must be taught to live a Spirit led life, and how to be a witness for God. House churches afford people this extra attention needed to become true disciples of Christ. Relationships are built, trust between members is built. No one falls through the cracks because the numbers are kept so small that everyone's needs are recognized and ministered to.
The needs of our society are great, the needs of the body of Christ are great. Time is short and much work is waiting to be done. It can seem overwhelming, but when that work load is broken down into tiny pieces, it becomes manageable and even easy and fun for everyone. When we evangelize, then produce mature disciples of Christ we are producing a tremendous pool of leaders and workers. Like ants working together, with everyone carrying a small load, the work gets done. Our work doesn't have to get harder to get greater results, we just have to work smarter, more targeted. No one is overextended and no one gets by without contributing something. It is time for the days of casual, uncommitted Christianity to be over. Jesus is a soon coming king and there are many that are just waiting for someone to reach out to them. The harvest truly is ripe.
