Daniel and the Lions Den

Sermon Notes

(Read Daniel Chapter 6 from an easy to understand version of the Bible or tell the story of Daniel in your own words)

Life Application of Daniel and the lions den.

Daniel was a Jewish man that was taken captive by the Babylonians. He was a slave but he rose to the top of the Babylonian government because he loved God and did what was right in Gods eyes and Gods favor was on him.

If we also do what is right in Gods eyes his favor will be upon us and He will bless us.

Verse 3 and 4 God gave Daniel supernatural abilities. He was a very good worker and God blessed him. He was faithful and honest. We should also be faithful and honest in everything we do.

Daniel also was a prophet of the Lord. He had dreams and abilities from the Lord. God gave him the ability to interpret dreams. You can also have vision and dreams from the Lord (Joel 2:28)

Verse 4 and 24 Satan used jealousy. Jealousy is from Satan and will cause you trouble. Following Satan costs these guys their lives and their families lives as well. Satan tried to use jealous to destroy Daniel but the people that allowed Satan to use them were the ones destroyed.

How can you tell when something is from God:

Good comes from the lord: The fruit of the spirit: love, peace, joy, faithfulness, self-control, long-suffering, gentleness, kindness, patience. You cannot have to much of this in your life.

Evil comes from Satan: hatred, meanness, jealousy, fear, doubt, strife, envy, etc..... Resist these things, they are from the enemy! Submit yourself to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you. James 4:7

Verse 10. Obey God, Don't be intimidated by Satan's ploys. Have faith in God. Daniel was not intimidated by the tactics of the devil. He chose to obey God over man even though it surly could have cost him his life.

Acts 5:29 But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: "We ought to obey God rather than men."

In verse 22 and 23 God sent angels to shut the mouth of the lions to protect Daniel. God is all powerful and he has many angels that does his work on his behalf. You have angels assigned to you as well for your protection but like Daniel you have to obey and trust God.
(See psalm 91:11)

Verse 24. These men came against Daniel and found that following Satan's devices cost them their lives and going against Gods people wasn't too smart of a thing to do either.

If you don't understand Gods people or agree with them, show them respect, as respect to God. You will be honored for it.

If other people around you are being disrespectful to God or his people, be strong. Don't take part. It could cost you more than you want to pay.

If someone comes against us because we are Gods people, we should not fight back but know that God will fight our battles for us. We should pray for our enemies.

Verse 25-27 Our faithfulness to God will cause others to believe in God!

Daniel's faithfulness showed the power and faithfulness of God and caused others to want to serve Him too.

End by asking God to help each person to be faithful, obedient and courageous like Daniel then invite the kids to come forward for salvation or any need they might have.

Memory verse:

Psalm 89:8
O Lord God of hosts, Who is mighty like You, O Lord? Your faithfulness also surrounds You.
