During a church service, whether it is in a house, a church building or outdoors, many people are needed to make it a successful event. God can and will use young adults, teens and even children to do His work. God is raising up an army of youth that He can flow through to spread the gospel to the ends of the earth. He is also raising up ministries like Chosen Explosion to train, mentor, send and support this army of radical soldiers of God.
A soldier of God is someone who takes his or her Christian life seriously. They realize that they are Jesus’ representative and that their life is a testimony of Him. They realize that people are watching their life and more importantly God is watching it and they want to please Him because they love Him. They have spent time with God and have an active relationship with Him. They have allowed Him to cleanse them and begin the process of reproducing Himself in them. The army of the Lord takes their work for God seriously. They are honest, dependable, mature, and focused. God has anointed, and will use His soldiers powerfully. There is nothing more exciting than being in God’s service. It is a supernatural life where we push back forces of darkness and advance God’s kingdom of light.
As soldiers of God there are many jobs we can do. We will briefly discuss the ministry jobs of prayer team workers, alter workers, ushers and helpers in this lesson. If you feel God is leading you toward one of these jobs you will receive further training and practice to equip you in your service to God.
Prayer team members will respond after an alter call or anytime the speaking minister calls for prayer team members to assist. They will counsel with people who respond to the alter call to find out what their prayer needs are. They will pray for or with the people in accordance to their needs. They may lead people in the “sinner’s prayer”. They may help the person pray to God to rededicate their life to Him. They may pray for sickness in their body or for a number of other needs. Many times people just want to be prayed for because they are hungry for God and want a fresh touch from Him. A prayer team member should expect God’s power to flow through them.
For most Christian’s, prayer team work is something they will have to grow into. A prayer team candidate must have a fair understanding of basic Christianity and the born-again experience. They will have to be able to lead people in the sinner’s prayer. This is why Discipleships courses one and two are required. Those two courses teach all these things. A prayer team candidate also should be somewhat comfortable praying aloud and for other people. Praying for others is uncomfortable to all of us in the beginning, but as we do it; it gets easier over time. If you are nervous about praying for others, you may want to do alter or usher work first and grow into this position.
He or She will help around the alter of a church service or an evangelistic event. There are times when many people will respond to an alter call and many workers will be needed. Alter workers will:
An usher is like an overseer of an event. They keep their eyes open at all times and remain aware of what is going on. They watch to be sure there are no problems, troubles or needs not being taken care of. If they see any, they respond quickly under the guidelines given to them. They carry a measure of authority and must take that authority seriously but with kindness and humility.
A helper is someone that comes early to help set up and stays after to help tear down. They assist any way they can during the service or event. They may help cook or serve food. They do anything that needs to be done.
A help must have a desire to serve God and do their best to walk with God. Their job is as important as any, and they must remember they represent God and Chosen Explosion and behave accordingly. They must be mature and able to follow directions.
Every job that we do for the Lord is vitally important and will be rewarded by God. The most important qualification for any work we do for God is to love God and to love people and be willing to let God use us. The Bible teaches us that God looks for the weakest vessels for His use because that way, He can reveal His power the greatest and receive the greatest measure of glory. I urge you to step out by faith and let God get glory from your life. There is nothing in this life more important or more fulfilling than being a part of God’s team.
