V. Conclusion
There are many ways to reach the lost with the good news that God loves them and has an awesome plan for their lives. People are different from each other; therefore, we need different methods of ministry to reach the different people. Tonight we will be discussing how the art of ministering through face painting can be a great tool to reach certain people with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Like ministering through balloon art, when you minister through face painting you are not trying to preach a sermon or even lead someone to Christ on the spot unless God leads you to do that. Rather, face painting opens the door for the minister to share information about God. This information will either prepare their heart to receive Jesus as their Lord if they are not already born again or it will simple be a means of teaching them about God if they have already received Jesus as their Lord. If may also be a time of exhorting or lifting up the person with kind words of comfort and love. Let the Holy Spirit lead you.
1. It draws youth to you.
2. It gives you an opportunity to tell them about God while you draw on their
face.
3. Kids love the face paintings, so you are being a blessing to them.
1. Various colors of paint that is designed for use on skin (You can order these
on-line or purchase them at hobby shops.)
2. Various sizes of smaller paintbrushes and some small sponges (These can be
purchased at any discount store or craft shop.)
3. Paper towels
4. A cup of water to clean your brushes
5. A gallon jug of water for refills and in case you need to wash the paint
off someone’s face
6. A paper plate to make a palette of colors
7. A hair band to hold their hair out of your way while you paint
8. A mirror so they can see your creation
1. Always pray before any ministry time. Ask God for His help with both your
artistic skills, and your ability to share Jesus with people effectively. Pray
for the kids to whom you will be ministering. Ask God to prepare their hearts
for your words.
2. Spend time thinking about ways you can share Jesus while you draw. Rehearse
them in your mind.
3. Make each child feel loved by both you and God.
4. Trust God for anointing (power) and guidance.
5. As with balloon art, you will have a crowd of children around you, but pay
most of your attention to the one you are working with. Each child should individually
get your attention.
6. Practice your drawings on paper first for practice, then on a models face.
You should be able to do your drawing in less than 3 minutes. Practice until
you can. You may have to cut some corners to make a design faster, or just stick
to the simpler designs.
7. You can cut out pictures of designs you can do under 3 minutes and put them
either in an album or on a poster board. Let your subjects see the pictures
and choose a design.
8. Be very careful not to get paint in their eyes.
9. Sometimes kids will ask you to draw things that are not approved by the church
or God, for example something violent or having to do with witchcraft. In that
case, make another suggestion.
10. Always put light colors on first then darker colors on top.
11. Keep your work area clean and organized.
12. Keep control of your work area. Don’t let anyone touch any of your
materials.
13. To avoid spreading germs, if a child has a runny nose or open sores on their
face, offer to paint their hand or arm instead.
14. Have a mirror handy to let them check out your work.
15. Tell your subjects the paint can be cleaned off their face with soap and
water.
16. Always be kind, be enthusiastic, smile!
The most important thing to remember is that when you minister through any method; you are the hands, the feet and the mouth of Jesus. You are simply a vessel through which God may flow to touch people. The work you are doing, regardless of how small it may seem, is very significant. You are doing the works of God, pushing back darkness and advancing God’s kingdom in the earth. You are an active part of God’s army. It is very serious and very important work. You must always rely upon God’s power and direction to help you. As long as our motive is our love for God and man, there is no limit to how God can change the world through us.
